Storm Records would like to wish everyone a happy new year and all the best in 2010. To Celebrate the new year we present to you, a new year gift, 'The Storm Report', mixed By DJ Kofi and Hosted By Olisa Adibua.
Back in 2006, Storm Records took Naeto C, Ikechukwu, DBanj, Jazzman Olofin eLDee & Don Jazzy to London for the Notting Hill Carnival In London they met up with the world famous DJ Kofi. They all went back to an apartment off Edgware Road, plugged a mic into a computer and it resulted in the evolution of Naija Hip-Hop.
The session resulted in Dbanj dropping some crazy freestyles, eLDee showing why he is the don of Naija Hip-Hop, Ikechukwu showing that hes as dope as it gets and Naeto C showing why he is the P.
DJ Kofi who has been spinning for many, many years was born in New York City, but brought up in Baltimore but now lives in London, doesnt like pigeon holing his style into specific genres.
Dj Kofi was on Choice Fm for Ten Years, a former UK Dj Champion and has also worked with Jay-z, Akon, Wyclef, Djed the First MTv Mamas and last summer hosted the party for The Williams Sisters in London after their successes at Wimbledon. Dj Kofi is a turntablist par excellence and his cuts and blends on this mixtape take no prisoners. He has been affiliated with Storm in Africa for over 5 years and has worked with Storm in Nigeria, Uk and South Africa.
He says about his music, I'm influenced by the world's heart beat, which I believe to be Music. I'm fortunate enough to have travelled the world so my influences are so vast I couldn't possibly mention them all.
On this mixtape DJ Kofi mixes up exclusive freestyles from the current Naija heavy weights including Naeto C , Sasha & eLDee and former chart toppers like Dare Art-Alades, Fuji & Naeto Cs Sitting On Top.
The Mixtape Features acts like Sasha, Ikechukwu, Alaye, Naeto C, Jazzman Olofin, eLDee, DBanj, Don Jazzy, olaDELe and many more Nigerian artists.
Storm Records brought you the first ever Hip-hop album from Junior & Pretty with FuFu Flavour. They also brought the multi-award winning debut album from, Naeto C titled, You Know My P and DJ Jimmy Jatts classic album which consisted of tracks from over 50 of Nigerias top artists including 2Face, Naeto C & 9ice, MI, Terry The Rapman and many more.
Back to The Storm Report, a classic mixtape, Nigerian Hip-Hop at its best, Storm stands behind this; we guarantee you a good listen! These sessions were legendary and Storm will soon be releasing the never before seen Documentary from that summer of ‘06 for the enjoyment of the masses. The Mixtape was previously unavailable, but is now available for free download. This is Storm's New Year Present to everyone. Enjoy the evolution this is before these artists became dominant and allows you to hear the best elements of our local music presented in an international format by a world class dj, and also shout out to Naija Dj's especially the legendary Jimmy Jatt who released the first official mixtape album in Nigeria on Storm Records.
